VINTAGE 1920'S “G” FELT APPLIQUE PENNANT

$100.00

Era: 1920s (research based estimate)

Size: XL full-size/tall wall pennant

Label: cloth label with embroidered MARSHALL E. SMITH & BROTHER

Tassels: attached to header

Material: wool felt pennant body with applied felt striping and layered felt appliqué

Color: forest green field with cream striping and cream appliqué

Measurements:

• Length (tip to wide end): 31.5” inches

• Width end (top edge): 13.5” inches

Early felt pennant with applied cream cross striping (vertical spine and horizontal header bar) and a large circular badge built from layered felt appliqué. A stylized script G is cut as its own layer and stitched over the roundel, giving the mark depth and a very considered piece of lettering design. Olive ground and cream appliqué both show soft, even sunfade toward the point, while a small cloth Marshall E. Smith & Brother, Philadelphia maker label at the back anchors it to an early East Coast athletic outfitter and a 1920s to 1930s origin. That surviving sewn-in embroidered label is rare on pennants, where labels are usually missing or printed and long gone.

Listing includes the item described above only. Any additional pieces shown are used for styling, scale, or archive context and are not included.
